What's behind Kate's 'maybe bump' rumors?

NEED TO KNOW
  • Royal correspondent Max Foster examines the pregnancy rumors surrounding Duchess Kate
  • Middleton has been photographed holding a clutch in front of her, refusing to eat peanut butter
  • Both Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II pregnant in first year of marriage

Is she or isn't she? That is the million dollar question.

Rumors that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has a bun in the oven are ramping up in Britain, and virtually around the world. So what's behind the 'maybe bump' watch?

Let’s look at the evidence:

The Duchess attended a pop concert in London this week with her in-laws, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Pregnancy watchers were more focused on her pocket book, which appeared to be strategically placed for much of the evening to hide what could have been a baby bump.

Reporters never got a chance to get a close look but social commentators pointed out that she was simply holding a "clutch bag" in the way it should be held. I'm told that it wouldn’t be very regal for her to be dangling the bang to her side.

The pregnancy rumor mill started in early November when she refused the opportunity to eat peanut paste at a UNICEF center in Copenhagen, Denmark. Note: Some expectant mothers avoid eating peanuts for fear of giving their unborn child an allergy.

Also in November, she was filmed rubbing her stomach during an official engagement at St James’ Palace.

It is worth pointing out that the couple has been married for less than a year, and both William’s mother, Princess Diana, and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, conceived in their first year of marriage.

There’s huge interest in whether Catherine is pregnant and it's more than just idle gossip. We are talking about the future heir to the most famous monarchy in the world! I am sure the Queen herself would be as thrilled as anyone to welcome a great-grandchild as she enters her Silver Jubilee year -- 60 years on the throne. What better way to celebrate a healthy future for the monarchy?

The palace does not comment on rumors, so they are not confirming anything. And the newlyweds have a very small group of close friends and family who are utterly discreet. So do not expect accurate breaking news on a royal pregnancy until it is officially announced.

But when it is, you’ll see it first on HLNTV.com. We’re all pregnancy watchers at this point!
