Search warrants released in Syracuse probe

  • Former Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine is accused of molesting boys
  • Authorities have released four search warrants aimed at finding evidence

A Federal Magistrate has released four search warrants aimed at finding evidence in the investigation of former Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine.

The long-time coach, under legendary basketball coach Jim Boeheim, is accused of having numerous sexual encounters with underage boys. Two of the three accusers were ball boys at the time of the alleged sexual molestation. So far, no criminal charges have been filed against Fine.

The warrants give a glimpse into the investigation of Fine’s alleged pedophilia.

Among other things, the warrants allowed for the seizure of:

"Pornographic materials, in any format, including digital or electronic form, that could have been used to sexually arouse or groom young males to engage in sex acts, including, but not limited to magazines, books, videotapes, disks, DVDs, video clips and compact discs," as well as documents or records "reflecting interstate or foreign travel, including, but not limited to airline tickets, hotel, airline, restaurant, gas station, toll and other receipts or invoices, credit card records; calendars; schedules (including Syracuse basketball team schedules); basketball game programs and scoresheets; photographs; and passports."

Agents searching his home, office and safety deposit boxes at local banks, say they seized the following:

  • From Fine's home: Nine cell phones, three iPads, two laptop computers, one desktop. Six still or video cameras, 56 VHS tapes and 143 CDs or DVDs. Negative[s], seven safe deposit keys, four file drawers or cabinets, eight film cans with film (plus other items)
  • From his office: One laptop, one desktop and two boxes of documents/photos
  • From safety deposit boxes: Seven documents
