A Michigan music teacher might get a lump of coal in her stocking this year for censoring a traditional Christmas Carol. What’s so controversial about “Deck the Halls?” Apparently, a gaggle of 1st and 2nd graders kept cracking up and laughing every time they sang “don we now our gay apparel.”
So music teacher at Cherry Knoll Elementary School yanked the word “gay” and replaced it with “bright.” As in, “don we now our bright apparel.”
The school’s principal got wind of the change – and now kids are back to singing the original version complete with the word “gay.” The principal told affiliate WPBN that he’s disappointed in the music teacher’s decision and that it’s a “teachable moment” (we’re not sure if the principal is trying to score a beer with President Obama or what).
Gosh, what if the kids had been singing “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” ... would you change that to “Grandma Got Slightly Nudged By A Friendly Reindeer, and the Reindeer Instantly Apologized?”
