Kanye & Adele: King and Queen of Grammy noms

  • Kanye West earns seven Grammy nominations
  • Adele nominated for six Grammys, including Album of the Year
  • Electronic artist Skrillex a surprise in Best New Artist category
Kanye & Adele: King and Queen of Grammy noms

Nominations for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards were announced on Wednesday night and Kanye is king.

Kanye West picked up 7 nominations, thanks to music from two albums "My Beautiful Dark and Twisted Fantasy" and "Watch the Throne." Kanye's top nod is in the song of the year category for "All of the Lights," but he'll be "Rolling in the Deep" against Adele for that title.

Adele is red hot right now, even while sidelined by throat surgery. Her album "21" has gone quadruple-platinum and now she's rolling in Grammy noms. Six to be exact. The songstress was nominated in all the major categories. Not only did she get that song of the year nod, she also snagged record and album of the year nominations.  Kanye was actually left out of Album of the Year, raising a few eyebrows.

There were some unexpected names that popped up for best new artist. The electronic musician Skrillex is a non-mainstream surprise. Nicki Minaj might be a household name thanks to her mainstream hits (and thanks to this adorable little girl on Ellen), but don't be fooled, Nicki hasn't been around too long. They're joined by The Band Perry, Bon Iver and J.Cole in the best new artist category.

Don't worry little monsters. Not only was Lady Gaga the opening and closing act on Wednesday's "Grammy Nomination Concert," she also picked up a well deserved nomination for album of the year. We can't wait to see what she wears on the red carpet. Last year's egg get-up will be hard to top!

Now we just have to wait until February 12 for the awards to be handed out! Who do you think the night's big winner will be?
