Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, making a remarkable recovery from a gunshot wound to the head, spent her Thanksgiving holiday giving back.
Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, helped serve turkey and all the fixins to troops and their families at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. On the menu: Turkey, prime rib, baked ham, shrimp, assorted cheeses and desserts.
Giffords sported a hat and an apron with "Gabby" written on the front, NPR reports.
Airman 1st Class Millie Gray told NPR that Giffords said, "Happy Thanksgiving, thank you for your service."
"She's such an inspiration and her story is so inspirational, it really made me proud. I felt very proud and very humble," Gray told NPR. "It just feels really good to see that she is out here supporting the troops, and just continuing to be an inspiration and a strong role model for Americans in general.
