That low rumble you hear is the sound of box office records being smashed by "Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” the new "Twilight" movie set to come out at midnight on Friday. Fandango reports the flick now accounts for 94% -- yes, 94% -- of its total online ticket sales.
Here are some more outrageous numbers that may put the whole Twilight madness into perspective. Fandango surveyed thousands of "Breaking Dawn" moviegoers and this is what they found:
It bears repeating: Twilight tickets represented 94% of Wednesday’s ticket sales. The movie doesn’t come out for another day, and that’s if you’re counting midnight screenings.
90% of ticket buyers say the gross-factor of the movie actually made them more excited to see it. There’s a much-talked-about birth scene that was scarring enough in literary form, and fans seem to be fascinated at how it will play out on the big screen.
47% said they’ll consider showing up to their screening in formal wear. After all, the pivotal wedding scene is one fans have been waiting for through three movies.
52% said they’d consider giving a Twilight-inspired name to any future children, 46% liked leading-lady Bella’s name, while “Team Jacob” bested “Team Edward,” with 10% claiming they’d name a baby Jacob, and only 6% going for Edward.
When HLN spoke to Fandango on Wednesday, the latest number of sold-out showtimes stood at more than 3,000 nationwide. One thing’s for sure: Obsession definitely sells!
