Pennsylvania State Rep. Mike Vereb is asking the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and attorney general to review Jerry Sandusky’s arraignment hearing. That's because District Judge Leslie Dutchcot, who allowed Sandusky to walk free without bail, received campaign funds from Sandusky’s charity, The Second Mile, according to campaign filings.
Sandusky is a former assistant football coach at Penn State University who is facing 40 charges of child rape and molestation. On his website, Vereb points out that Sandusky was released on $100,000 unsecured bail -- even though prosecutors requested bail be set at $500,000. They also asked that Sandusky be required to wear a tracking bracelet.
Vereb is questioning Dutchcot’s decision because campaign filings show The Second Mile held a fundraiser for her when she ran for office in 2007. At that time, Sandusky was still working with the charity as its founder. The fundraiser at The Second Mile Chairman Robert Poole's house in State College netted $1,463. About three weeks after that, Poole made an additional donation of $1,000.
