Splitting up with a significant other can be so awkward! What to do? Survey says: Technology to the rescue.
Market research company Lab42 says it polled 500 social network users ages 18 and up, and 33% of the folks surveyed said they’ve called it quits with a partner via Facebook, e-mail or text. Forty four percent said they would explore those options if push came to shove, the company says.
We can almost imagine Phil Collins, somewhere in the world, smiling and nodding at these reported revelations. (Note to non-Genesis/”Sussudio” fans: Back in 1994, Collins is said to have told his ex-wife Jill that he wanted a divorce…via fax.)
Meanwhile, 52% of the people polled said that after a breakup they change their Facebook relationship status “immediately,” and 45 percent reported using the social networking site to chat with their partner over the course of the day, the market research group says.
Do YOU think it’s okay to break up by Facebook, e-mail or text?
