If you thought mega-family parents Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar were done expanding their famous brood, think again! The parents and stars of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” are expecting their 20th child.
The whole family was on hand Tuesday to announce the news on NBC's “Today Show.”
"Jim Bob and I are excited to announce that we're pregnant with baby number 20,” Michelle said. “We're due in April and I'm feeling great. All of the children are thrilled and we're looking forward to welcoming this precious new addition to our family."
“This is the farthest apart we’ve gone [between babies]…typically 16-18 months apart, and so we were really kind of thinking it might be our last, and that was kind of sad,” Michelle said.
So, will the Duggars retire from baby making at 20 kids? “Well, I guess we’ll wait and see. We would love however many the Lord sees fit to give us,” Michelle told “Today.”
“We didn’t want to stop at an odd number, either,” Jim Bob said with a laugh. They're grandparents too, by the way. Oldest son Josh and his wife Anna have two children.
The baby news might come as a surprise given Michelle’s complications with her last pregnancy. Daughter Josie arrived three-and-a-half month premature in December 2009. Doctors delivered Josie early in order to save Michelle from potentially life-threatening health problems. The struggles have been documented over the course of the TLC reality show and their Facebook page
In a taped message on the show's website the couple says they realize that people might say "Wow, what have they done here, 20 children?" But Jim Bob says they're thankful and consider each child a gift and blessing from God.
Josie, who weighed 1 pound, 6 ounces at birth, spent months in the hospital recovering from medical emergencies, including a perforated bowel she suffered at just 8 days old, People.com reports. But now, with her second birthday around the corner in December, the Duggars say little Josie is happy and healthy.
