Keith Urban is expected to have throat surgery later this month to have a polyp removed from his vocal chords.
A post on Urban's website says "The surgery, an out-patient procedure, while minor, will require complete voice rest followed by an undetermined period of recuperation."
The country star will have to scale back on his schedule, but some shows will go on. Urban's rep says, "he will be honoring his pre-existing one-song performance commitments leading up to the procedure." This means Urban will still perform at the Country Music Awards on November 9 where he is nominated for CMA entertainer and male vocalist of the year.
Urban is just the latest in a list of singers forced to give their powerful voices a rest due to surgery. Just last week Adele announced she has to cancel the remainder of her appearances for 2011 for a throat-related procedure.
And John Mayer announced on Tumblr last month he was recovering from a surgery to take care of a granuloma (a small area of tissue inflammation) near his vocal chords. Mayer had to cancel several shows and push back his upcoming album release due to the condition.
