The season finale of TLC's "The Little Couple" was an emotional rollar-coaster for the show's stars Dr. Jennifer Arnold and her husband Bill Klein. The episode started with the happy news that the couple was expecting a baby through a surrogate. Unfortunately the joy was short lived. The couple ended the show by revealing the surrogate suffered a miscarriage six weeks later.
Arnold, who is a neonatologist, tells People magazine, "I deal with families who lose their babies and I will cry with them, but I thought I would be stronger. Nothing can completely prepare for all that when it is about you." Arnold said when she found out about the miscarriage she was heartbroken, "I cried my eyes out."
The couple tells People they are finding comfort and strength from sharing their story. "When we lost the pregnancy, we wondered how we were going to handle it," Arnold said. "But by sharing our story, whether it be positive or negative, I think it can help others going through similar things."
The couple is also getting an outpouring of support from their thousands of fans on the show's Facebook page. The couple responded to the overwhelming support with their own message:
"Thank you so much for your ongoing support and prayers. While the loss of the pregnancy was difficult for us, we remain upbeat and focused on growing our family. The story doesn’t end here… we promise :) -Bill & Jen"
