In an emotional eulogy, Steve Jobs’ sister revealed the last words the Apple founder spoke: “Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.”
Mona Simpson said Jobs spoke the words hours before he passed away and right after looking at his other sister, his children and his wife. Simpson’s eulogy was published in the New York Times this weekend.
Simpson is Jobs’ biological sister, but the two didn’t meet until they were both adults. Jobs had been given up for adoption right after he was born, and Simpson was born several years later. Simpson’s father did not play a big role in her life, and she wrote in the eulogy that she was always looking for a man to love who could also love her. She said Jobs filled that role.
Jobs’ sister recalled the phone call she got from her brother the day before he died, urging her to come to Palo Alto to be with him. When he started to say his goodbyes, she said, “Wait. I’m coming. I’m in a taxi to the airport.” And he replied, “I’m telling you now because I’m afraid you won’t make it on time, honey.”
Simpson says Jobs took his final breaths surrounded by his family. She said that he even seemed to achieve death, rather than succumb to it. Jobs passed away on October 5 at the age of 56.
