It's the wedding you thought would never happen. Well, at least Shannon Tweed thought it wouldn't...
HLN’s “Showbiz Tonight” confirmed that after two decades together, KISS bassist Gene Simmons and longtime girlfriend Shannon Tweed were married on Saturday night in Beverly Hills.
Gene and Shannon’s two children, Sophie and Nick, were among the 400 guests at the wedding. Sophie and Nick played a hand in announcing the big day: Nick drew a family portrait while Sophie wrote a poem announcing the “soon-to-be Team tweed Simmons" on the invites.
The kids were also front and center on their parent’s big day. Sophie was maid of honor and performed Etta James “At Last” for the first dance. (Very fitting!) Nick also took the stage for a performance.
And how could it be a rock-and-roll wedding without the band taking the stage? KISS reportedly treated guests to several of their hits.
After 28 years of dating you would think the road to the altar would be smooth, but there were some some bumps along the way. Right before their summer engagement Shannon and Gene had a nasty on air fight on “The Joy Behar Show.” Tweed got sick of Simmons joking about his infidelities and stormed off set. Luckily they eventually KISS’ed, made up, and got engaged on their A&E show “Gene Simmons Family Jewels.”
So did the wedding ceremony go off without a hitch?
According to wedding guest Bill Maher, the only thing that interrupted the nuptials was a pesky helicopter. Maher tweeted: “Only in Hollywood do they pause the wedding ceremony to let the helicopter go by.”
Season seven of “Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” will follow along as preparations for the wedding day get underway and on October 18, A&E will air a special wedding episode.
A&E has been promoting the season while asking, “will it be happily never after?” What do you think?
