Carlos Diaz sports blog: hot dogs, true love & Tiger

I’ve got hot dogs, a love story and a new commercial from Tiger for ya in today’s sports!

A man is running from the North Pole to the South Pole trying to raise 100 million dollars for the Red Cross... talk about an extreme sport! Endurance runner Pat Farmer is jogging 13,000 miles through 14 countries. That's two full marathons a day... 52 miles a day... every day... no days off!! The 49 year-old Australian just ran past CNN Center here in Atlanta as he nears the half way point in his 11-month journey... and he stopped long enough to talk to us about how people are comparing him to some kind of super hero, but he's just a regular guy. In case you're wondering about the fuel needed to run over 50 miles a day... Farmer tries to eat 8,000 calories a day... about 4 times what most healthy people eat... But he says he's not eating as much as he should so he's losing weight, which is not a good thing for him... Imagine that... He's probably the only guy in the world who is upset about losing weight because of jogging!

Settling the NFL Lockout just got more complicated. Now retired NFL Players want a place at the negotiating table so that their interests can be heard. Hall of Famers like Carl Eller, Franco Harris and Marcus Allen are part of the class action lawsuit so that the money that is owed to retired players in pensions and disability pay does not get sacrificed as the NFL owners and current NFL players try to work out a deal. The complaint could throw a wrench into negotiations that are set to resume today in New York.

The NBA lockout might ruin Chris Bosh’s wedding… The Miami Heat big man is getting married later this month, but under the strict Lockout rules that the NBA bass has laid down, team officials and players are not allowed to have any contact with each other. Well, Bosh has already invited a bunch of the Heat’s coaches and front office employees to his wedding… An NBA spokesman says the league’s going to make an exception and allow everyone to attend Bosh’s wedding. So, love does solve all the world's problems...

Have you seen the latest Tiger Woods commercial? Probably not, because it's only being shown in Japan... But we've got it for ya right now...

That's Tiger pushing a Japanese pain relief sports creme... his first new endorsement deal since his marriage scandal hit more than a year and a half ago.

62 hot dogs in 10 minutes… That’s what Joey Chestnut stuffed into his face to win his 5th consecutive Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest… But we’ve got controversy… 6-time winner Takeru Kobayashi didn’t compete at Coney Island because of a contract dispute with Major League Eating, but he did eat 69 hot dogs in the same 10 minutes at bar in Manhattan, setting a new unofficial world record. In the newly added women’s division, Sonja “The Black Widow” Thomas downed 40 hot dogs to earn the Pepto Bismo Pink Belt…

We're used to seeing Derek Jeter in Yankees pinstripes... But stars and stripes?! On Morning Express with Robin Meade I'll show you the patriotic uniform Jeter wore this weekend. He played with the Yankees’ minor league team in Trenton, New Jersey as he rehabbed his hamstring injury... Obviously, that odd jersey affected Jeter's play when he returned to the Yankees yesterday... He went hitless in the Yankees' loss to the Indians...
